Criteria: Based on education and experience as specified below.
Job Requirements: Installs, maintains and repairs network and voice communication cabling, patch panels, communication racks and closet equipment. Interacts with customers to analyze and document user requirements for peripheral equipment adds, moves and changes. Performs cable locates as necessary to identify cable infrastructure paths between facilities. Uses cable and network diagnostic tools to monitor performance and resolve problems. Provides input for modifying and updating County standards for the County's network and telecommunications systems, hardware and software. Trains other IT staff on a variety of equipment and software. Interacts closely with help desk and desktop staff and assists with diagnoses as needed; develops desktop troubleshooting checklists and helps gather information for help desk databases. Programs and configures network equipment and telecommunications systems. May work with third party contractors as needed in support of timely responses to issues. May assist with the oversight of third party contractors as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate's degree in Telecommunications, Electronics, Computer Science, Information Technology or a closely related field and one (1) year of direct, hands-on experience with installing, supporting, troubleshooting and maintaining networks or telecommunications systems in a large, multi-user, multi-application environment. Must have strong analytical skills. Knowledge of help desk software. Ability to communicate well with a variety of others, both verbally and in writing. Must be able to successfully pass a background investigation.
Any equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the education and experience requirements above. Ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
