Procedure to File for Enterprise Zone
Tax Credits
The El Paso County Program Administrator
is required to verify that your business is located
within the Enterprise Zone. However, if the
only credit being claimed is the investment tax
credit and it is less than $450, a certificate
is preferred but not required.
Applying for certification is a simple and quick
process. Follow these steps:
- Photocopy and fully complete, sign, and date the
"Certification of Qualified Enterprise Zone
Business" form (DR74). The
appropriate owner, partner, or corporate officer
must sign the form prior to executing step 2 below. Please
complete all questions on the form, including employment
and investment figures, whether or not you are claiming
credits related to employment and/or investments.
Those figures are needed for State statistical purposes.
- Mail the certificate and a stamped, self-addressed
return envelope to the El Paso County Enterprise
Zone Administrator at 27 E. Vermijo Ave. 5th floor,
Colorado Springs, CO 80903. You can also Fax the
form to (719) 520-6486.
- Upon verifying both your location within the El
Paso County Enterprise Zone and that the form is
complete, it will be signed, dated, and returned
immediately.
- You need to attach a copy of the fully executed
certification form to your Colorado income tax return
when you file. The State requires this form
to substantiate your claim to credits taken. Do
not send the form independently of your tax return;
it must be attached to your return like any other
supporting schedule.
Note: A signature from the El Paso County
Program Administrator does not assure the taxpayer
that it is using the tax credits correctly. Please
consult a certified tax accountant if desired.
