Volunteers Needed For El Paso County Boards and Commissions

Colorado Springs, July 13, 2010 - The El Paso County Board of Commissioners is seeking community-minded citizen volunteers to serve on the Placement Alternatives Commission.  Applications for the open positions are due by August 6. 

The Placement Alternatives Commission, under the Department of Human Services, has openings for a Public Health representative (must be a current employee of the El Paso County Department of Health and Environment), a Probation representative (must be a current employee of the Juvenile Probation Department), a Community Center Board representative (must be a current employee of the local Community Center Board, Resource Exchange), a Consumer representative (must have utilized the services of the Department of Human Services),  a Health Care Professional representative (must be a licensed health professional working in the healthcare field), an Attorney (practicing),  a Court representative (must be recommended by the court), a Mental Health Center representative (must be employed by a local mental health clinic), a DHS representative (must be currently employed by the Department of Human Services), a Foster Homes representative (must work with foster children and/or homes), and several Private Citizen representatives.

Members are appointed by the Board of County Commissioners for three-year terms and are limited to serving two consecutive terms.  The commission reviews the effectiveness of programs within its jurisdiction and evaluates requests to establish new residential children’s programs in the county.
