November 6th is Go Red for Women Education Day in El Paso County
October 29, 2009 – The El Paso Board of County Commissioners passed a resolution to proclaim Nov. 6th as the American Heart Association’s “Go Red for Women Education Day in El Paso County.”
“Cardiovascular disease claims the lives of about 455,000 American women each year and is the leading cause of death for women, but only 21% of women say they consider heart disease their greatest health risk,” said Commissioner Sallie Clark who is the past chair for the event. “Educating women about their risk for heart disease and the importance of making the right decisions relating to proper nutrition, physical activity, doctor visits and other lifestyle methods is essential to living a heart healthy life.”
This year the “Go Red for Women Education Day” event will be Friday November 6th at the Antler’s Hilton from 8:30am to 2pm. The day will include health screenings to get a feel for your heart health, fitness demonstrations, an ask-the-doc booth, along with other interactive displays and a heart healthy lunch with keynote speaker Donna Hartley, a health advocate who survived a plane crash, skin cancer and open heart surgery.
