Woodmen Road
Transportation Improvement Project

Purpose of Project

Why is the Project Needed?

The purpose of this project is to evaluate and construct safety, capacity and access control improvements for the El Paso County section of Woodmen Road. With increasing development in the northeastern portion of the county, growth pressures placed on the six-mile stretch of Woodmen Road extending from Powers Boulevard to Meridian Road have been tremendous. This growth has led to an increase in residential construction and services (schools, shopping, etc.) and a corresponding increase in traffic congestion and traffic accidents.

The subsequent study has evaluated roadway speeds, current road design and conditions, land use/population projections, environmental conditions and traffic volumes now and into the future. The roadway has been redesigned where necessary to accommodate improvements and to meet the county's design standards. Public involvement activities have been conducted to assure that public issues and concerns have been gathered and considered in the design process.
