Woodmen Road
Transportation Improvement Project

Project Funding

El Paso County anticipated the need to begin work on transportation improvements for Woodmen Road and started discussions with the Colorado Department of Transportation several years ago to identify possible funding sources. Each agency understood the urgency of the safety issues and identified funds to support improvements for Woodmen Road. Once engineering studies have been completed, the funds will be programmed to complete the construction of recommended transportation improvements.

The developer community also recognized the need for improvements to Woodmen Road offering to partner with El Paso County to help finance improvements for Woodmen Road. The Woodmen Road Metropolitan District was formed in Fall of 2001 with the purpose of generating up to $12 million to assist with the construction cost for Woodmen Road. Part of these funds will be used in the short-term to participate in the construction of the Woodmen Road safety improvements.

Initial members of the metropolitan district include:

  • Bennett Ranch
  • Meridian Ranch
  • Falcon Highlands
  • Greenbriar
  • Powerwood Development

As other developments occur within the service area of the metropolitan district, they will become partners in the district to address impacts to Woodmen Road.
